Chrome Extension Permissions (Camera/Mic Troubleshooting)

If recording doesn’t start, it’s almost always a camera/mic permission issue. This guide fixes that quickly.

Grant Permissions from Extension #

  1. Open the extension popup.
  2. Click Enable Camera.
  3. Approve Chrome’s camera/microphone prompt.
  4. If a helper permission tab opens, complete the flow and click Finished.

Verify Chrome Site Permissions #

  1. Open Chrome settings for site permissions.
  2. Confirm Camera = Allow.
  3. Confirm Microphone = Allow.
  4. Make sure the correct devices are selected.

Common Errors and Fixes #

“Permission dismissed/denied” #

  • Click Enable Camera again and accept prompt
  • Remove blocked permission entries and retry
  • Restart Chrome and test again

No camera preview #

  • Close Zoom/Teams/Loom/other apps using camera
  • Switch camera device in extension dropdown
  • Reconnect webcam if external

No microphone input #

  • Select the correct microphone in extension
  • Check OS-level mic permissions for Chrome
  • Test mic in another site (e.g., Google Meet) to confirm hardware

Clean Test Reset (Recommended) #

To test fresh permission prompts:

  1. Remove extension from Chrome
  2. Clear extension/site permissions
  3. Reinstall extension
  4. Re-run Enable Camera flow
